More and more companies are looking to their suppliers to comply with the requirements of the ISO 14001 Environmental Management System standard. Even if not a current requirement by the company's customers, ISO 14001 is still worth implementing to improve the company's overall effectiveness.
ISO 14001 is an environmental management system standard, which, like ISO 9000 has a series of non-prescriptive requirements, which are to be implemented by a company to meet the way the company, operates. ISO 14001 is concerned with the environment and includes the following six major areas.
- General requirements (To establish and maintain an environmental management system):
- Environmental policy
- Planning
- Implementation and operation
- Checking and corrective action
- Management review.
