ISO/IEC 17025 - Requirements for Competence of Testing and Calibration Laboratories

Project Summary

ISO/IEC 17025 is the new international standard for certification of commercial laboratories. It replaces ISO/IEC GUIDE 25, which is currently required by the automotive industry for laboratories. ISO/IEC 17025 includes several requirements which are similar to those currently included both in the ISO 9000 Quality Management System and in the ISO/IEC GUIDE 25 requirements for commercial laboratories but changes the focus and expands the requirements in several areas.

The ISO/IEC 17025 standard has two sections:

  1. The management requirement section has fourteen major areas to address and is similar to the requirements in the ISO 9000 Quality Management System standard.
  2. The technical requirement section contains nine major areas and is more specific to the personnel and methods used to perform test and calibration services.

Deliverables

If the company is currently compliant and/or registered to ISO 9000 and/or ISO/IEC Guide 25, attendees will find that you have a solid structure in place to help you in the documentation and implementation of a system, which meets the requirements of ISO/IEC 17025. You must now add procedures that are more specific to the company's testing and calibration system activities.

If the company's laboratory is not currently registered to either ISO 9000 or ISO/IEC GUIDE 25, we will help you establish a documentation system which will meet ISO/IEC 17025 requirements and which will provide a solid base for future implementation of other standards as required by the laboratory.
