QFD - Quality Function Deployment

Module Summary

Quality Function Deployment (QFD) is a planning technology that focuses on what attracts or repels the customer, and methodically explores the relationships of:

  1. Quality characteristics,
  2. Functions,
  3. Parts, and
  4. Processes.

Ideally, QFD includes:

  1. A thorough exploration of what the competition has to offer (Product Benchmarking),
  2. A creative springboard to superior function at lower cost, by linking to Value Engineering.

Who Should Attend

This series is intended for concurrent engineering teams including designers, engineers (product, process, reliability, quality, etc.), marketers, manufacturers, and managers. Teams should schedule this course to coincide with the beginning of the QFD phase of their project.

Deliverables

This training is designed to prepare teams to:

  • Effectively move the focus of a product or process design upstream, from part features or process steps, to the "customer wants."
  • Relate customer wants to quality characteristics, benchmarks, functions, parts, and processes, by using a sophisticated matrix chart.
  • Compare new designs to the "best-in-class." Assemble the resulting matrix charts into a basic "house of quality."
  • This course is for teams only, and at least 50% of class time will be devoted to real work on a real project.

Prerequisites

Program Length
