Statistical Analysis for Product Engineering

Summary:

Statistical analysis is a backbone of the scientific method. Engineering data and test results always involve variation that requires statistical analysis for correct interpretation. This module trains and provides attendees with experience in:

  • Displaying normal data, estimating, and comparing
  • Working with probabilities - binomial, exponential, and Weibull
  • Graph paper
  • Tables

Who Should Attend

Product engineers and others involved in product design and development.

Deliverables:

Attendees will be able to:

  • Display data using frequency distributions, normal probability plots, and scatter plots
  • Use basic statistics including mean, standard deviation, variance, capability, performance, Cp, Cpk, Pp, Ppk, and PPM.
  • Calculate confidence limits
  • Perform comparison tests
  • Read an ANOVA table
  • Interpret linear regression statistics
  • Apply probability rules
  • Calculate reliability; Use Weibull plots

Attendees receive a manual and workbook that will serve as a future reference.

Prerequisites:

None

Time:

16 hours (2 days)
