Advanced Vibration Analysis

Module Summary

PTG designed this course to assist participants to develop the skills required to analyze complex vibration problems on a wide array of rotating machinery. Students are exposed to the solution of many types of vibration problems using "case history" examples. The course is presented from a predictive maintenance point of view.

Who should attend

Recommended for individuals with experience in vibration analysis wishing to improve their diagnostic capabilities.

Deliverables

The steps necessary to properly evaluate the health of typical types of machinery are covered in detail, including:

  • Measurement types (time waveform, FFT frequency spectrum, Bode', etc.),
  • Measurement units,
  • Sensor type and sensor mounting,
  • Measurement parameters (resolution, averages, data acquisition time),
  • Advanced techniques for bearing damage assessment (PeakVue, Spike Energy, HFD, crest factor, waveform peak, etc.),
  • Electric motor analysis using vibration and motor current signature analysis,
  • The use of phase measurements to assist in visualizing the vibration characteristics of machinery, which improves the ability to diagnose more difficult problems (operating deflection shape and mode shape analysis),
  • Resonance testing techniques for analyzing natural frequency related vibration problems,
  • Single & dual channel resonance testing procedures are demonstrated.

The General Motors Vibration Standard is covered in detail and we provide a copy for each participant.

Prerequisites

"Basic Vibration Analysis" (or equivalent) is a prerequisite for this course.
