Tooling and Fixturing

Module Summary

In addition to a brief review of machining, this module covers fixturing, one basic product/fixture design principle called 3-2-1, and basic fixturing issues. In computer integrated manufacturing, the process selection issues are much broader than machining, but in metal removal processes, machining often comes. In machining, tooling and fixturing are frequently an issue.

Who Should Attend:

Product designers and skilled trades involved in design reviews, process planning, fixture development, and tool development.

Deliverables

Attendees shall learn:

  • The Machine Tool/Component Interface
  • Tools and tool attributes
  • Fixtures and fixture attributes
  • Relationship of tools and fixtures to process planning and computer aided engineering.
