Managing the Troubled Employee

Summary:

This program will provide a process and tools for leaders to recognize and intervene effectively with employees having personal problems that manifest themselves in the workplace. They will learn when intervention is appropriate and when it is not. The issue of substance abuse will be of particular focus because of the many challenges it presents in the workplace. Participants will have an opportunity to practice handling difficult situations involving troubled employees and gain feedback on their performance.

Who Should Attend:

Supervisors and managers at all levels of the organization

Deliverables:

After completing this program participants will be able to:

  • Distinguish what their role is in different situations, including when work performance is or is not affected
  • Effectively employ a 5-step process of problem identification, documentation, intervention, referral, and follow-up
  • Plan and utilize helpful tips for an effective constructive confrontation interview
  • Utilize their Employee Assistance Program (EAP) effectively (if available)
  • Deal with the particular challenges of substance abuse situations
