Workplace Violence Prevention

Summary:

Workplace violence can come from a variety of sources: disgruntled employees or previous employees, angry customers or vendors, or out of control partners or former partners of employees. Participants will learn to recognize potentially violent persons or situations, understand the company policies and procedures for managing such circumstances, and know how to defuse such situations, if possible. Since prevention is the ultimate goal, the supervisor and manager needs to know how to reduce the possibility of workplace violence in the first place.

Supervisors and managers at all levels of the organization

Deliverables:

After completing this program participants will be able to:

  • Identify the scope and causes of workplace violence
  • Apply company policies and procedures pertaining to this issue
  • Increase ability to recognize warning signs of a volatile employee or situation
  • Utilize defusing techniques and conflict resolution skills to use with angry employees, customers, and others who present warning indicators
  • Identify management options and situations when they might be most appropriate
  • Learn about company and community resources that can be of assistance
