Interpersonal Communication Skills

Summary:

The basic ingredients of effective communication will be covered, including sending messages, receiving messages, listening, questioning, and feedback. Participants will explore different ways of sending and responding to messages, including passive, passive-aggressive, aggressive, and assertive modes. They will learn the power of non-verbal behavior and the use of one's voice in sending messages. Participants will assess one's own preferred communication style and learn how to communicate successfully with those having different styles.

Who Should Attend:

Any employees regardless of level in the organization

After completing this program participants will be able to:

  • Send verbal messages with clarity
  • Use active listening skills effectively
  • Use open and closed-ended questions appropriately
  • Provide constructive and specific feedback to others
  • Recognize the power of non-verbal behavior and one's voice in the communication process
  • Distinguish differences in passive, passive-aggressive, aggressive, and assertive communication
  • Assess one's preferred communication style
  • Utilize one's preferred communication style to effectively communicate with those having differing styles
