Making Meetings Work

Summary:

Much of the workday of many employees and most leaders is spent in meetings. Yet most people groan at the thought of attending another meeting because meetings are often mismanaged and accomplish little. In this program, participants will learn how to make meetings productive and efficient through effective planning, facilitation, and follow-up.

Who Should Attend:

Anybody who leads meetings on a regular basis

Deliverables:

After completing this program participants will be able to:

  • Develop a purpose statement, desired outcomes, and a meeting agenda
  • Plan prior to the meeting to maximize outcomes during the meeting
  • Utilize roles of timekeeper, note-taker, and parliamentarian, when appropriate
  • Recognize different forms of group decision making, and when to use them
  • Develop shared ground rules
  • Facilitate meetings to maximize participation and achieve desired results
  • Keep the meeting within the agenda's time constraints
  • Recognize the differences between task and process issues in a group meeting and gain feedback to improve future meeting effectiveness
  • Assign action items and make follow-up plans at the conclusion of a meeting
