Structured On-the-Job Training

Summary:

New employees will learn their jobs somehow. If employees learn in a haphazard way, catching what they can by watching others, reading manuals, and informally listening to how others perform the job, it will take much more time for employees to become productive. This workshop is designed to help managers, supervisors, and designated trainers increase their effectiveness in training employees on a one-to-one basis. It will focus on the tasks needed for employees new to a job or task to attain proficiency more quickly through a structured process.

Who Should Attend:

Employees responsible for training others as part of their job functions

Deliverables:

After completing this program participants will be able to:

  • Define structured OJT and when to use it
  • Distinguish the unique characteristics of adult learners
  • Identify trainee characteristics including: level of knowledge and learning style
  • Perform a simple task analysis
  • Write performance objectives, including the action, criteria, and conditions for successful performance of a task
  • Train employees using the Tell-Show-Do-Check method
  • Create job aids to help trainees learn the job quickly
