Self Assessment Using the Baldrige Criteria

Summary:

Project Summary Your organization can benefit from a self-assessment using the Baldrige Criteria. There are three different formulas for success:

  1. E-Baldrige Organizational Profile - this self-assessment takes just a few minutes and you'll receive a comparison of your organization with others who have taken the challenge. You will be able to identify gaps and develop action plans to address your opportunities for improvement.
  2. Baldrige Self-Assessment - a questionnaire that can be completed by your staff, which touches on all seven categories of the Baldrige Criteria. It takes just ten minutes to complete and provides an overview of your staff's understanding of quality and performance excellence and how the organization demonstrates its commitment to infusing quality.
  3. Introduction to a State Quality Award Program Self-Assessment - this process assists in crystallizing the quality function in your organization. At the completion of this self-assessment you will be able to identify "strengths" and "opportunities for improvement". A detailed action plan with time frames and accountability is the finished product.

Who Should Attend:

The E-Baldrige Organizational Profile module should be attended by senior management, as it requires a knowledge of the Mission Statement and the Strategic Focus of the organization. The Baldrige Self-Assessment - an individual assessment of the organization that can be completed by the entire organization - a department - or a section. Depending on the size of the section being assessed, all from that section should attend or if the entire organization is being assessed, representatives from each department should attend.

State Quality Award Program Self-Assessment - requires a cross section of the organization from senior management to entry-level personnel. To be truly effective in assessing the "strengths" and "areas requiring some improvement" for the organization, participation from six to eight employees representing various disciplines in the organization is needed.

Deliverables:

E-Baldrige Organizational Profile - how to prepare a document that identifies gaps in your strategic planning process and compares your organization with similar organizations.

Baldrige Self Assessment - how to prepare a document that reflects the pulse of the organization as it pertains to management, human resources, business results to name just a few. This survey can either include the entire staff or a specific section or department.

State Quality Award Program Self-Assessment - how to prepare a document that reflects the "strengths" and "areas requiring improvement" of the entire organization or a specific section or department. Includes an action plan and an accountability section in so far as who is responsible for the implementation.

Prerequisites:

In all cases, an understanding of the internal workings of the organization as they relate to the commitment to quality, customer service and strategic planning.

Program Length:

One day (The above provides an introduction to the various modules assuming that the organization develops and prepares the finished product. Additional consulting on the above modules to assist in the development and completion can be contracted).
