Summary:

Most states have a Quality Award Program patterned after the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award Program. Applying for this type of recognition is an easy way to acclimate your team to the advantageous of becoming a customer focused organization. The process can involve the entire organization, segments, or departments. The completed self-assessment is forwarded to the appropriate states' award office where it is reviewed. Generally, a feedback report is provided and recognition provided. Most states have a tiered award process allowing your organization to complete a self-assessment at the level you are most comfortable. Some programs may be in the embryonic stage and thus an introductory level may be appropriate. Others may be more advanced and thus a higher level of recognition might be sought.

Who Should Attend:

Key Personnel including senior management who have an understanding of the Strategic Planning Process of the Organization. A facilitator and a cross section of 6 to 8 people from the organization participate in the facilitated discussions.

Deliverables:

A document that analyses the "strengths" and "areas for improvement" of the organization along with an action plan for addressing those items. In addition, the completed document is an application that can be submitted for that state's Quality Award.

Prerequisites:

An understanding of the internal workings of the organization as they relate to strategic planning, human resources, customer satisfaction and business results and an understanding of the company's quality program.

Program Length:

Three days in the self-assessment portion. Depending on the size of the organization or the department or section being reviewed, the summation and completion of the action plan could take anywhere from two days to two weeks.
