Getting Started with TQM

Summary:

Successful implementation of any Total Quality Management program begins with an understanding of the principles of TQM and what is needed to create a foundation to implement TQM. The need for employee involvement and the many benefits of implementing a TQM program will be explored. Roles and responsibilities of everyone in the organization are discussed and their impact on the success of a TQM program is assessed.

To begin implementation of a TQM program, one must first understand the principles of Total Quality Management and what is really needed for an organization to begin implementation.

  • Understand the history and important concepts of TQM to determine what is applicable to your organization.
  • Overview of the similarities and differences of the Quality philosophies of Juran, Deming and Crosby.
  • Create a structure and framework for TQM
  • Continuous improvement - what does it really mean?
  • Cascading quality - employee empowerment
  • Cost of quality, its impact on your organization, and what you can do to improve it.
  • Definitions of Quality and Total Quality Management and what they mean in your environment.
  • Roles and responsibilities in implementing a Total Quality Management program.
  • Installing and keeping quality in a product or service.
  • Communicating with customers and suppliers.
  • Overview of most widely used and effective TQM tools.
  • Problem solving techniques.

This course builds a foundation upon which to construct a solid TQM program.

Who Should Attend:

Key Personnel including senior management who have an understanding of the Strategic Planning Process of the Organization. A facilitator and a cross section of 6 to 8 people from the organization participate in the facilitated discussions.

Deliverables:

A document that analyses the "strengths" and "areas for improvement" of the organization along with an action plan for addressing those items.
